Signs of Summer Thaw on the Antarctic Peninsula
02.06.08 -- The tip of the Antarctic Peninsula showed seasonal changes in late January 2008. Images captured on Jan. 24 and Jan. 30 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer on NASA's Terra satellite show a dramatic color shift, signs of the summer thaw.
Summer Thaw, Eastern Greenland
07.19.07 -- Summer thaw was underway on the fringe of eastern Greenland when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Terra satellite passed overhead and captured this image on July 13, 2007.
Sea Ice and Cloud Streets in the Sea of Okhotsk
02.08.07 -- Tucked between Siberia and Russia's frozen Kamchatka Peninsula, the Sea of Okhotsk was a field of ice when the Terra satellite captured this photo-like image on February 6, 2007.

NASA Embarks on Cutting-Edge Polar Exploration and Research
05.29.07 -- NASA has selected 33 new scientific investigations to fund that will advance interdisciplinary studies of Earth's polar regions and the objectives of the International Polar Year (IPY). The three-year projects will be conducted by scientists and students at NASA centers, U.S. universities and other research institutions.
NASA Joins USGS to Produce Best-Ever Satellite Views Of Antarctica
03.07.07 -- Researchers from NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey have woven together more than a thousand images from the Landsat 7 satellite to create the most detailed high-resolution map ever produced of Antarctica.
IPY from the International Space Station
02.26.07 -- The International Space Station provides a unique vantage point to image polar features like aurora, polar mesospheric clouds, plankton blooms, sea ice, and glaciers. Through "Crew Earth Observations," station crew will collaborate with IPY scientists by taking images of their research areas.
